We’re at the beach this week, and we were lucky enough to be joined by the Philly Farmers as well as some family and more friends over the weekend. That’s me with the farmers above- they have names, actually, they are Kristin and Andrea- and I know that is a supremely unattractive picture of all of us, but who has time to care at the beach?
Everybody hit their respective co-ops, farmer’s markets, local produce stands, backyard gardens, and Whole Foods before arrival, so there was a lot of good local (and mostly organic) foods to make our 10th local meal!
Everybody brought a windfall of tomatoes, so we enlisted our foodie friend Larry to make some sauce, which the girls enjoyed on pasta (not locally produced, sorry) and with a side of local corn on the cob:
We also secured a big bag of clams which were eaten before I thought to bust out the camera.
My dinner included a crabcake made from local crabs (just the crabmeat, no filler; kudos to my husband for keeping it local without even being asked).
There was also a cucumber and onion salad that was deemed “delicious and refreshing”.
(Looking back, I feel I should point out that I didn’t cook any of these things! I am a lazy bum. I did take on dish duty.)
I think there was also some local beer involved; my memory is a bit fuzzy on that point, as I had been drinking it all afternoon.
We’ll be eating tons of mostly local meals this week, as everyone left their surplus squash, zucchini, tomatoes, eggs, peppers, onions, green beans, peaches, blueberries, and I don’t know what all behind ( thanks, guys!).
However, this guy will be spared as he is too cute to eat…the tomato, that is, not Cass…
I’m having some troubles staying connected to the internet here at the beach, sometimes I get dropped before I’ve saved, so bear with me if posts are a bit slapdash! I’m doing my best!
