It is not the strongest of the species
that survive,
nor the most intelligent,
but the one most responsive to change.
-Charles Darwin
The ultimate result
of shielding men from the effects of folly
is to fill the world with fools.-Herbert Spencer
Say what you have to say,
not what you ought.
Any truth is better
than make-believe.
-Henry David Thoreau
In times of universal deceit,
telling the truth
becomes a revolutionary act.
-George Orwell
I tried very hard to think of a quote I like involving leaves, or stars maybe. But my mind is elsewhere.
I am thinking about tonight’s debate, and how nothing really gets answered, and how you can be bombarded with information all day long and still learn nothing.
I would like to see some revolutionary acts tonight. I’d like some truth, even if it’s difficult to hear. I’d like answers that address real questions.
My vote was decided a long time ago, when a message of change awakened my capacity for hope. Hope that here was a leader who could inspire a country to take action to build better lives and a brighter future. We need that.
We as Americans are hurting, I think, because we have been ignoring an integral need for connection, for service. We want to do something, but many of us don’t where to begin, how to start. We need someone to rally behind, to help us find the strength in ourselves to help others.
Mr Obama, I have a request tonight. Kindly, for me, for my peace of mind, as a representative of “Main Street”, please do not allow Senator McCain to distract you at tonight’s debate. Do not waste time. We are well aware at this point how politics work. Ignore his taunts and half-truths, we can sort them out later. Tonight we want specifics and answers.
As Thoreau says, you have built your castles in the air, and that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
Are you watching the debate tonight?
What questions do you want to see asked…and answered?
