Alas! must it ever be so?
Do we stand in our own light, wherever we go,
And fight our own shadows forever?~Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton
When you think about it, Phil has a hard life. Sure, he gets room and board year-round, and only has to make a public appearance once a year for it.
But oh, the pressure! I heard so many people threaten the poor thing with bodily harm if his prediction indicated that winter wasn’t ending soon.
Phil delivered, or rather the ridiculous ice & rain we are under made for non-shadowy conditions. However, given that Phil has only been right twice in the last ten years, maybe we should have been hoping his prediction would swing the other way…
Take heart, everybody. Last year, on February 26, we still looked like this:
But less than two weeks later, the snow had melted to reveal the beauty waiting underneath.
On March 8 I have photos of fully bloomed snowdrops.
That’s only a little over a month away. One month is nothing! Think how December flew.
And remember, the more severe the winter, the more wild and joyous the first explosion of spring color. The tulips, daffodils and crocuses should be brilliantly abundant.
Say it with me.
One month til flowers. One month til flowers.

I’m feeling so much guilt. I live in Florida. Here’s to spring!

LUCKY!! No, I’m kidding. I like snowmen and I like the arrival of spring most of all!
