Cassidy received a bag of hand-me-downs at Christmastime, and she’d been waiting until the first day of school to break out the leopard print sweater.

But just before we left, she pointed out that something was missing.

My vintage leopard-skin pillbox hat. And matching handbag. (It’s faux, it’s not “really that expensive kind”.)

Which I somewhat reluctantly retrieved from their place of honor; because truly, they look so much better on her.

Alas, after one hits 30, there seem to be fewer and fewer occasions on which it is acceptable to wear one’s leopard-skin pillbox hat.

When she arrived, she burst into the classroom hollering, “Look ! Look! Look at my brand-new leopard-skin pillbox hat!”

And man, I just about died laughing.
