A sage thing is timely silence, and better than any speech.
PlutarchIt’s quiet outside today; I suppose the birds are hunkered down in anticipation of more rains to come. Rain always makes me feel a little quiet, a bit introspective.Over the weekend the kids and I went to the Great Green Expo, and Cassidy picked out these pineapple sage plants to take home. I suppose they can used for cooking in some capacity, but for now we are loving the splash of color on our kitchen counter, and occasionally picking off a leaf and crushing it between our fingers.Oh, my gosh, it smells just like fresh pineapple, better than any perfume or air freshener, and Cass loves burrowing her face in it and dramatically inhaling. Apparently the thing will grow into a shrub 3-5 feet high, and shoot with more intensely scarlet blossoms that hummingbirds will visit in autumn, when most other garden color has faded away. All in all, the best $2.49 I’ve spent recently. What little things are making you happy today? -
The Winnah!
Win as if you were used to it,lose as if you enjoyed it for a change.Ralph Waldo EmersonHey, I can’t believe I forgot to mention I won something for one of my photos- in the “Snow Babies: Winter Fun Photo Contest.”
It was that photo of my kids being smartasses and building a snow couch and snow TV.
The other photos are all very cute! You should go check them out over at Mom Space.
I have to say, it’s nice to be rewarded for being clever once in a while 🙂

Get Wild, Child: National Wildlife Week & the "National Day of Unplugging"
I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple
in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.Alice WalkerIn case you didn’t know, this week- March 15th-21st- is National Wildlife Week, and I signed the pledge to “Be Out There.” (You should sign, too!) And the weather has cooperated so nicely; I can’t resist its siren song.
Tomorrow promises to be another glorious gift of a day, and as luck would have it, it is also the “National Day of Unplugging.” During daylight hours, anyway (I have to get work done SOMETIME) I’ll try to heed the principles:
— Avoid technology,
— Connect with loved ones,
— Nurture your health,
— Get outside,
— Avoid commerce,
— Light candles,
— Drink wine,
— Eat bread,
— Find silence and
— Give back. Then I’ll come back to the computer and tell you about the monster of a week I’ve had.
How have you been spending these wonderful spring-y days? Anything good cooking this weekend?
