  • Fun Weekend Project

    Tomorrow, June 21st, is “DILO Day” on Flickr.

    DILO Day is a photographic celebration of “a day in the life”.

    The idea is simply to take 5 pictures on the designated day (tomorrow), upload them to flickr, and tag them “dilojun08”.

    The theme is, appropriately enough: GREEN.

    Why do we love photographs so? Because a photo is a single moment in time. Every moment, when we have the opportunity to examine it closely, is magic. It is when we live our lives as a series of examined moments that we achieve happiness.

  • Another Beautiful Morning

    To find the universal elements enough;
    to find the air and the water exhilarating;
    to be refreshed by a morning walk
    or an evening saunter…
    to be thrilled by the stars at night;
    to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring-
    these are some of the rewards of the simple life.

  • Summer Boredom Busters on the Cheap: Days One and Two

    Day #1 was yesterday: Hit the library.

    Day #2: Act out a story.

    (Another slideshow. Click through to site if viewing on RSS. Clicking on the title should take you to the gallery if you’d like to see the photos larger.)

    We had a Mad Tea Party, a la Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. We dressed up, made high tea, played games and danced, and then looked at different versions of the same text. If I had thought of it sooner, I would have borrowed some supplies for croquet. The kids were really involved for hours and then cheerfully cleaned up afterwards.

    I think this would be fun to do again, acting out other stories, preferably incorporating food: Goldilocks and the Three Bears, maybe, or Stone Soup, or Blueberries for Sal. In the Night Kitchenis a possibility if we ignore the nudity. Umm, Green Eggs and Ham?

    I’m a bit limited as I’ll have to keep the literature to the three year old’s level.

    Anyway, fun! Tell me if you have any other good stories to act out on a summer afternoon.

    I’ll try to post a cheap or free outdoor boredom buster every day so check back for more!
