The Chinese expression for “crisis” consists of two characters side by side.
The first is the symbol for “danger,”
the second the symbol for “opportunity.”

Ugh. I grew up in Delaware and now live just over the state line in Pennsylvania, and I’m a little surprised and disappointed with both right now.
According to this comparison from WalletHub, Delaware comes in 41st for water quality and dead last for % of energy consumption from renewable resources. Delaware also limps in at 46th for number of green (LEED) buildings per capita.
Pennsylvania ties for next-to-last for air quality. Not cool, PA. No wonder everybody has allergies and/or asthma.
Overall, PA ranks 14th and DE at 43rd. Really, Delaware? 43rd?
(You can hover over your state in the image above to check out its overall ranking.)
I honestly thought Delaware was much more progressive when it came to eco-measures than it looks like it really is; or maybe it’s just not enough to overcome the challenges posed by the density of the population and the pollution caused by our power plants and neighboring big cities.
In any case— an opportunity for improvement, yes? Delawareans: support sustainable businesses, voice your concerns, volunteer for cleanup projects. Just please, do something to show those in a position for policy changes that you care.
How eco-friendly is your state? Any surprises for you?
