  • Getting Noisy

Freedom is only one side of a phenomenon
    whose other side is responsibility

MY BROTHER HAS NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE.

    I can’t flipping believe it.

Check with everybody you know. Even close family members. Five little words.
    Are you registered to vote?

    Don’t let this happen:

The deadline for registration varies from state to state, but for most it looks like early to mid-October.

    Get out there. Get noisy.

    Time is running out.

  • Goodbye, September, I Hardly Knew Ye

    September:

it was the most beautiful of words,
    he’d always felt, evoking orange-
    flowers, swallows, and regret.

Check out my pumpkin! I think it was labelled a toadstool pumpkin, but I may be mistaken. It looks like I dripped paint all over it. I love all the ugly gourds and squash of fall, you’ll be seeing many more in the days ahead.

I really can’t believe it’s the last day of September. I feel like I missed out on the whole month, like it just ran through my fingers.

How was your September? Did you get a chance to savor it, or did it pass you by in a flurry of back-to-school, politics, and economic bailouts?

What others criticize you for, cultivate.

    It is you.

    -Jean Cocteau

I know, I’m on a non-conformist kick at the moment. It happens.

Look at how highly individually and with such incredible detail the insect world is crafted, how distinct the patterns and bold the colors. Even if they wanted to mute their outer selves, it’s not remotely an option.

To be honest, this particular bug makes me crave these pants. Wouldn’t the world be more fun if we indulged our desire to wear yellow-and-black checkered jeans?

Don’t we owe it to ourselves to be every bit as interesting, individual, and complicated as we actually are? Wouldn’t it be great if we wore those differences so proudly we didn’t even have to wrap them in the metaphor of our clothes?

Although, it didn’t turn out so great for this guy. Just after this photo was taken, he was caught by the bearded robber fly in yesterday’s picture. Those robber flies are serious business!
